Polymer Architecture - From Structure to Functional Control

(Klaus Müllen - Béla Iván)

Keynote Lecture: Klaus Müllen (Mainz, D): "Organic Functional Nanoparticles"

Invited Lectures by Krzysztof Matyjaszewski (Pittsburgh, USA); Béla Iván (Budapest, H); Shiro Kobayashi (Kyoto, J); Bert Meijer (Eindhoven, NL); Martin Möller (Aachen, D).

Special Lectures will be also presented on selected topics; list of invited speakers (not complete yet): David Haddleton (Warwick, GB); Yves Gnanou (Bordeaux, F); Nikos Hadjichristidis (Athen, GR); Rolf Mülhaupt (Freiburg, D), Majda Zigon (Ljubljana, SL)

Polymer synthesis must meet strict requirements such as structural perfection (even of high molecular weights), variation of molecular topology and dimensionality or selective chemical functionalisation. This needs sophisticated methods for both, synthetic and bio-inspired target structures and often implies metal-catalysis and reactions in confining geometries. The next, equally important, step toward designed materials’ properties is processing, i.e. creating a well-defined macroscopic state of matter, which often possesses supramolecular order at different length scales. This architectural control leads to superior performance of polymers in complex functional systems for which examples from chemistry, biology and physics will be presented.

SCOPE

Polymer synthesis must meet strict requirements such as structural perfection (even of high molecular weights), variation of molecular topology and dimensionality or selective chemical functionalisation. This needs sophisticated methods for both synthetic and bio-inspired target structures and often implies metal-catalysis and reactions in confined geometries. The next equally important step in creating designed material properties is processing, i.e. creating a well-defined macroscopic state of matter, which often possesses supramolecular order at different length scales. This architectural control leads to superior performance of polymers in complex functional systems for which examples from chemistry, biology, physics and polymer technology will be presented.

LOCATION

The Symposium on Polymer Architecture, as a part of the 1st European Chemistry Congress, will be held in Budapest, a historic city by the Danube and a cultural center in Central Europe. Budapest is also capital to one of the most dynamically expanding economic regions in Europe.

ABSTRACTS

This Symposium will include a keynote lecture, invited lectures, oral and poster presentations. Both Oral and Poster Sessions are a very important and integral part of the Symposium and the Congress, and ample space and time will be given for poster presentations. Participants are cordially invited to submit Abstracts to this Symposium (Special Topics Symposium M). The Symposium Chairs will evaluate the submissions and decide on acceptance for oral communications and/or poster presentations. After evaluation and approval by the Chairs, the authors will be notified of the detailed arrangements.

Abstracts may only be submitted electronically through the Congress website via the on-line Abstract submission system. Please, do not submit multiple copies of the same Abstract. Abstracts sent by e-mail, mail or fax will not be accepted. In case of difficulties please contact the Symposium or Congress Secretariat.

Each presenting author is entitled to submit only one Abstract but may also be co-author of Abstracts submitted by other presenting authors. The content of the Abstract is solely the responsibility of the author(s). The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the Abstract before submission. Information about the acceptance of the Abstract will be sent to the submitting author by e-mail in April.

An Abstract Book will be distributed in hard copy, on CD and the Abstracts will also be available from the Congress web site.

Abstracts must be written in English. The abstract is laid out as follows: title, name(s) of the author(s), their affiliations, keynotes and body text including the references in the corresponding boxes. The abstract textbox may only contain the body text of the abstract and eventual references. Please leave an empty row between the body text and references. The abstract may contain only ascii characters. Figures and special characters like Greek letters, subscripts or superscripts cannot be included. The maximum length of the body text with references is 1200 characters (using the word count tool of MS Word). Depending on the internet browser you use for the submission the counter placed to the lower left corner of the abstract textbox may show slightly different values. Abstracts that are too long will not be accepted.

PLEASE  PREPARE  AND  SEND  YOUR  ABSTRACT

ACCORDING  TO  THE  INFORMATION  AT

Please, consider that August-September is a high tourist season in Budapest, and make your registration and hotel reservation as soon as possible.

SYMPOSIUM VENUE

The Congress and the connected Exhibition will be held at the ELTE Convention Centre (Eötvös Loránd University, address: H-1117, Budapest, Pázmány Péter sétány 1. (see the map). It is situated in a pleasant and scenic park on the Danube embankment, enriched by the pleasant atmosphere on the Buda side of the river. The Congress site can be reached easily by public transport (e.g. trams No. 4 or 6 and/or bus No. 12) and it is fully accessible for disabled people. See more details:

TRAVEL

Budapest can easily be reached by plane, train or car. Airport shuttle buses (minibuses) regularly run from and to Budapest Ferihegy airport. Budapest has an efficient public transportation system (called BKV), and taxis are also reliable as long as they are booked, ordered by phone, or present fixed fares.

For airport transfer information, click here and see the "Airport Minibus" or "BKV" headings. Alternatively, for airport transfer by taxi, click on either of these companies for fare information:

Airport taxi / Tourist taxi / Airport-Hotel transfer
